-- Before Thursday night's season opener, the RapSheet said on the NFL Networks pregame show that it will be several weeks before Carson Wentz is back on the field.
However, Sunday morning Chris Mortensen tweeted that Wentz will be back "sooner than later" and noted week 3 as a realistic date.
Week 3 would be the ideal return date for Wentz. He could be eased into the lineup at home vs a Colts team that was beat 34-23 by the Bengals in Indy.
The latest return date sounds like week 5. That would coincide with RapSheets reported October return.
The bottom line here is that Wentz is clearly progressing without any setbacks, and that's all that matters. Regardless if it's week 3 or week 5, it seems that he will be under center very soon.
There were two quarterbacks who made their return from major injuries in week 1...
Andrew Luck: 39/53, 319 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT, 93.2 Rating
Deshaun Watson: 17/34, 176 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT, 62.9 Rating
-The rust factor
After such a long layoff Wentz will definitely have to shake off some rust once he returns.
Watson made his return from an ACL injury, and had his ups and downs.
The one thing you can't account for with this type of injury is confidence. It looks like Watson was struggling with that, especially early in the game.
- The positive
Watson didn't look great in his return, but he did look fully healthy.
Watson tore his ACL on November 2nd, while Wentz tore his ACL and LCL on December 10th.
Wentz will need to shake off some rust and regain confidence in his knee, but if anyone is up for the challenge it's Carson Wentz.
Just in case you forgot, this was what Wentz was doing this time last year....
One side note: Carson Wentz had as many touchdown passes as Dak Prescott in week 1.
