Last Thursday was one for the ages...
Aaron Nola: 8 IP, 5 hits, 1 BB, 0 ERs, 9 Ks, (W)
Max Scherzer: 7 IP, 2 hits, 4 BBs, 2 ERs, 10 Ks (L)
Cy Young battle
Aaron Nola has made a legitimate case to be the NL Cy Young.
Max Scherzer: 181.2 IP, 16-6, 2.13 ERA, 244 Ks, 8.8 WAR
Jacob deGrom: 174 IP, 8-8, 1.71 ERA, 174 Ks, 7.5 WAR
Aaron Nola: 169 IP, 15-3, 2.13 ERA, 169 Ks, 8.6 WAR
Since July 4th, Nola has been ridiculous..
... with 7 more starts (including tonight) Nola has the opportunity to strengthen his case.
Nola lacks in the K department, which probably will give the edge to Scherzer.
BUT, if he can do what he did last Thursday again tonight, that would put the entire baseball world on notice.
Nola also has pitched less innings than both Scherzer and deGrom. It's possible that he has more gas left in the tank down the stretch.
Tonight is part II
The Phillies come into this game as a slim UNDERDOG..
Right now every game is important for the Phils. They are 3-7 in their last 10. They are now just 9 games over .500 and trail Atlanta by 3.5 games in the NL East.
Last Thursday the Phils came in riding a 4 game losing streak and Nola was able to stop the bleeding. Can he do it again?
The Braves start a 3 game set @ home with Tampa Bay.
