This was one hell of a debut for the rookie tight end. 4 catches, 66 yards and a touchdown.
He did drop one pass over the middle in the first quarter, but other than that he was flawless. He looks like a Travis Kelce clone. Ertz and Goedert on the field at the same time is going to be a match-up nightmare. Good luck.
He's in midseason form.
Clement looks quicker than ever. He rushed for 30 yards on 5 carries. He's going to be a swiss army knife for Doug Pederson this season.
The O line
The Eagles rushed for 106 yards on the night. They looked dominant, especially the first unit. Richard Rodgers also looked solid as a blocker. Hopefully he can fill the Celek role. The one negative was Issac Seumalo's snap issues.
Bausby showed good instincts and quickness. He also chipped in with 5 tackles and 1 assist.
He led the team in tackles with 6, and was easily the best linebacker on the field for the Eagles tonight. He also looks to be in tremendous shape... the dude is jacked.
He was on our list of players who needed to step up, and he delivered. 2 catches for 77 yards, including the 63 yard bomb. He also added 2 kick returns for 53 yards. Gibson helped his case tonight.
I thought Adams showed a solid burst. He rushed for 30 yards on 6 carries. He also caught two passes for 11 yards. If he can prove to be a capable special teams player, he could make the team. Matt Jones didn't have a carry which should bode well for Adams.
Sudfeld showed some flashes, but he also looked rough at times.
His stats look better than he did, 10/14, 140 yards, 2 TDs, 2 Ints, 103.3 QB rating.
I do think he is a capable backup, which is good news for the Eagles. He has room to grow and should only get better with more game reps.
Smallwood wasn't bad, but he wasn't great. He rushed for 21 yards on 6 carries. He also fumbled once (Eagles recoverd.) It was a typical Smallwood performance. He shows flashes of greatness but we know he isn't great.
Qualls was a player I mentioned that needed to step up... he didn't.
He looked really slow off the ball, and was getting blown back consistently. He had three penalties, including a brutal and lazy offsides. He also didn't look to be in great shape.
The Eagles need a DT to step up. Maybe we'll see more of undrafted FA Bruce Hector next week.
The linebackers (not including Jordan Hicks)
I've been on the Nate Gerry bandwagon, but he didn't look like a starting NFL linebacker.
I don't know where Corey Nelson was? He will need to see more reps next week.
Grugier-Hill played well, but the rest of the group left something to be desired.
A mixed bag for Rasul. He did have the one interception, but was beat bad for two touchdowns.
Rausl may be better suited for safety down the road.
Nothing to be worried about here. The Eagles starting unit is loaded. Jordan Hicks flying around was a beautiful sight. Fletcher Cox looked like a freight train. The running backs looked great, and the O line was dominant.
The only questions marks they have are depth related.
The battles to watch from here remain the same...
- The weakside linebacker position.
The Eagles will need two starters for week 1.
- Josh Adams vs Wendell Smallwood.
- Shelton Gibson vs Greg Ward/Kamar Aiken/Markus Wehaton.
Gibson has to be in the lead.
- The slot corner.
I think the Darby trade talk can be put to bed for now.
- D tackle depth
Somone will need to step up.
Next week the Eagles travel to Foxborough for a “Super Bowl rematch” with the Patriots.
