A player that we will all become very familiar with throughout the preseason is Nate Sudfeld.
Sudfeld was selected by Washington in the sixth round of the 2016 draft. He spent his first season and all of last years' training camp and preseason in D.C. before being waived. The Eagles would then sign him to the practice squad on September 3rd.
We got our first glimpse at Sudfeld during week 17 vs Dallas, and he was pretty impressive...
The Eagles seem to have high hopes for the 24 year-old backup quarterback.
Everything that we have heard about him throughout the offseason and training camp has been very positive and optimistic....
Sudfeld has only played in seven games....
3 games: 28/53, 238 yards, 3 TDs, 0 interceptions
3 games: 33/56, 360 yards, 0 TDs, 0 interceptions
Week 17: 19/23, 134 yards, 0 TDs, 0 interceptions
It's a small sample size, but he's yet to throw an interception. If he can continue to limit the turnovers and show some of the accuracy we saw in week 17, the Eagles may truly have something in Nate Sudfeld.
With a strong preseason, he would all of a sudden become extremely valuable.
He could either be a major asset that Howie Roseman could then use as a trade chip, or prove to be a reliable backup for when Nick Foles leaves next season.
I have since backed off the "trade Nick Foles" bandwagon, but consider this scenario...
Carson Wentz is cleared for week 1, and a starting quarterback goes down.
If Sudfeld looks more than capable during the preseason, the Eagles could potentially listen to trade offers on Foles.
The preseason can be tough to watch at times, but Sudfeld's development is very intriguing.
