Diekman would be an obvious upgrade over Adam Morgan and Austin Davis. Seranthony and Neshek have been great, but they need a lefty to face the likes of Freddie Freeman, and Bryce Harper (if he stays) late in games down down the stretch.
I' m not exactly sure what Granderson could provide besides a veteran presence. The Phillies already have a left handed hitting right fielder who is better than Granderson. If they are looking outfield, a right handed hitter would make a lot more sense.
Iglesias probably won't be moved, but he would be a monster upgrade in the bullpen. He is under contract until 2021 at only 5 mil per season. You won't get an arm like this on the open market for anywhere close to this price.
-Madison Bumgarner, LHP, Giants- 3-4, 51 Ks, 3.06 ERA
This is just BS on my part, but hear me out...
Sitting at .500, the Giants are pretty much sellers at this point, especially with Johnny Cueto now out for the season.
They have one of the worst farm systems in all of baseball. A trade of Bumgarner would replenish their system with a few top prospects.
From a Phillies perspective this would make a ton of sense. He is under contract at an affordable price (12 Million) for another season.
Imagine a 1-2 punch of Nola and Bumgarner in October?
If you want to be bold, this is how it's done.
This is a long shot, but if the Nationals decide to listen to offers on Haper, the Phillies have to at least make a phone call.
Let's see what Kelntak has up his sleeve. With the Nationals potentially waiving the white flag, the NL East is there to be won.
We'll update throughout the day with new rumors!!
**Update 1 PM
One name we should add to the Hail Mary list is Joey Gallo.
I'm not sure where they would play Gallo, but he would add significant power to the lineup. He's played 6 games this season in right field, and played 72 games in 2017 at third base.
Gallo: 26 HRs, 59 RBIs, .187 average (would fit right in) .757 OPS.
Gallo is only 24 and under team control until 2023. A deal like this isn't the type of trade you typically see at the deadline, but we've seen crazier things happen.
-D'Backs get Brad Ziegler..
There's one name off the list for the Phillies. A lefty reliever makes more sense.
-Braves in on Archer?
They need a front-line starter, so this is something to monitor. We'll see if they part with the prospects.
Diekman could be the guy that the Phillies end up with before the end of the day.
Update** 1:35 PM
-An upgrade at catcher??
The catcher position has been a mess for the Phillies. Alfaro and Knapp have combined for 16 errors on the season.
Ramos' .993 fielding percentage is better than both Alfaro (.989) and Knapp (.978).
Ramos would also be a major offensive upgrade...
Knapp/Alfaro: 11 HRs, 38 RBIS
Ramos: 14 Hrs, 53 RBIs
The only issue with Ramos is that he is currently on the 10 DL with a hamstring, but should be back soon.
Update** 3:05 PM
-Ramos deal is done.
-Phillies give up a player to be named later...
-Phillies in on Archer????
With less than an hour to go it looks like we're on Archer and Diekman watch.
