We thought it was over last night, but now it's official.. LeBron is heading to LA.
(Click here for our extended "what's next" article)
This isn't the end of the world for the Sixers.
LeBron is now out of the East, and the Sixers/Celtics rivalry can flourish without LeBron's shadow over its shoulder.
This Sixers are in a very good position moving forward, but they must be smart. They can't make a panic move just for the sake of making a move.
Focus can now shift to Kawhi Leonard and J.J Redick.
As highlighted in our "what's next" article, the Kawhi situation is a tricky one.
Paul George changed his mind about signing with LA so why couldn't Kawhi?
On the other hand, we just watched him sit out an entire season, and there's no guarantee he wouldn't do the same again.
As far as the top remaining free agents..
- Tyreke Evans, F, Memphis
- J.J Redick
- Avery Bradley, G, LAC
- Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, SG, LAL
- Wayne Ellington, SG, MIA
No one besides J.J. Redick really jumps off the page.
Realistic trade targets..
- Kemba Walker
- Demar Derozan
Would they even be worth it?
- CJ McCollum
- Bradley Beal
It would be tough to pry one of these players away.
2019 Free agents
- Kevin Durant ?
- Kawhi Leonard
- Klay Thompson
- Kyrie Irving
- Jimmy Butler
- Kemba Walker
- Kevin Love
- Harrison Barnes
- Eric Bledsoe
Who out of this group could the Sixers realistically land?
Welp, that's it for LeBronWatch. Our 21 day look at the Sixers pursuit of the of the King.
This wasn’t exactly the result we were looking for, but at least it’s over and we can start looking at what’s next for the Sixers.
This organization has come a long way from the days of tanking and being mocked. They were seemingly the runner up in signing the best basketball player whoever lived.
The Sixers are in a good position moving forward. However, there is a lot of work that needs to be done.
Again, I don't want the Sixers to be the next OKC Thunder... a team who couldn't win the title with Durant, Westbrook and Harden.
They need to continue to add talent around Simmons and Embiid. Two areas that need to be addressed is their athleticism on the wing, and of course, shooting.
They should still be star hunting. It's obvious that you need at least 3 stars to compete with these super teams.
Let's see what else Brett Brown has up his sleeve, and hopefully this time he can close.
