Welcome to the game of the year. Imagine it's October 18th this past fall. The Eagles are 5-1, it's starting to get cold and the Sixers are preparing for the season opener in Washington.
Fans are getting ready for their first look at Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid together. The city has no idea the up swing it's about to take. As a fan base we were hoping for 42 wins, above .500 record and a playoff appearance.
Now we find ourselves entering a Friday game in April jockeying for position with King James himself. Wow.
Going to get right down to it. Tonight's game means everything for this team. It's the most important game for this organization in a very long time.
Winner tonight gives themselves a strangle hold on that 3rd seed. That top three spot is more important today than it was 24 hours ago because of Kyrie's injury.
That knee injury virtually knocked the Celtics out of NBA Finals contention this year. Since the NBA doesn't reseed each round. The winner of the 3-6 match up would play the winner of the 2-7.
That would give the Sixers the ability to most likely play Miami in the first round and the winner of Washington and the walking dead, I mean the Celtics, in the second.
Let's take a look at some scenarios.
If the Cavs win that would extend there half game lead on Philly to 1.5. Cleveland would then control their own destiny and with two games left, both against the Knicks they would most likely finish the year 52-30.
The Sixers would at best be able to finish 51-31 and would have a tough second round match up with the Raptors. Hate that.
Cleveland gets the 3rd
Sixers get 4th
The Sixers beat Cleveland tonight. The team would be a half game ahead of the Cavs with three games left to play. If they were to win out, Philly would finish at 52-30 and Cleveland would at best be 51-31.
Sixers get the 3rd
Cleveland gets 4th
Sixers win Friday night but they drop one of the final three games and finish with the same record as Cleveland.
Their head to head records would be tied 2-2 but Cleveland would own the next tie breaker.
Cleveland gets the 3rd
Sixers get the 4th
This game will also give this team and city another opportunity to court the King. CJ McCollum damn near broke the internet accross the Delaware Valley this week.
One blow hard, Cowherd obviously, shot this down because he has some type Philly bashing bias. I'm not one to complain about these scumbags but it is so clear that he takes his shot at Philly every chance he gets. He's a loser and someone from Philly hurt him as a child. Get over it.
This team doesn't need LeBron to be good, they already are. they need LeBron to be great. Philly would jump to the top of the East next year and be close to a 65 win team.
Tonight this organisation and fan base will get another opportunity to show LeBron what it's like to be loved in this city.
Welcome to the first playoff game of the season ladies and gentlemen. Sixers vs Cavs. Ben vs Bron. Three seed on the line.
Whatever you had planned tonight, cancel it. This is a defining moment in Philadelphia sports. You'll remember where you were when the young guns stole the third seed from the King and lured him to a new castle.
