Howie Roseman has set the newest blueprint for how to win a Super Bowl.
However, there was only one team that could truly follow it.
Like the Patriots, Steelers, and Seahawks, the Eagles won a Super Bowl while their franchise quarterback was still under his rookie contract.
The Rams are attempting to add their name to that list.
They have taken the Eagles blueprint and essentially mimicked their every move.
2017 Eagles off-season:
Alshon Jeffery- 1 year deal
Chance Warmack- 1 year deal
Patrick Robinson- 1 year deal
Torrey Smith (essentially a 1 year deal)
Chris Long - 2 year deal
Released Connor Barwin (didn't fit their system).
Traded for Tim Jernigan (he was set to become a free agent after the 2017 season).
Rebuilt their secondary (traded for Darby)
2018 Rams off-season
Ndamukong Suh - 1 year deal
Traded for Marcus Peters (will be a free agent following the 2018 season).
Traded for Aqib Talib (Completely rebuilt their secondary).
Traded Robert Quinn and Alec Ogletree (didn't fit their system).
There are also rumors that they are interested in Odell Beckham Jr. (He will be a free agent after the 2018 season).
The NFL is the ultimate copycat league.
Howie Roseman made the blueprint... while your franchise quarterback is on his rookie deal, surround him with talented players on short-term contracts.
LA was the only team that could follow that plan. Just like the Eagles in 2017, the Rams are all in, and are completely gunning for the Eagles spot.
As is life as the Super Bowl Champs.
Now, Suh, Peters, and Talib aren't exactly choir boys. The Rams have added a lot of colorful personalities to a team that is coming off their first winning season sine 2003.
Could this blow up in their face?
It sure could.
However, on paper, LA is shaping up to be the Eagles biggest threat.
In general, the NFC is going to be a blood bath. The Vikings are better, the Rams are obviously better, Rodgers is back, the Saints are the Saints, the Falcons remain solid, and the 49ers are on the rise.
The good news is that the Eagles are also better.
Legal problems aside, Michael Bennett makes the Eagles a better team. His nasty attitude on the field is something that will help the Eagles defend their crown.
The Eagles and Rams will play in Los Angeles again this season, aka the Carson Wentz revenge game. This will certainly be one of the most anticipated regular season games of the 2018 season.
