Howie Roseman isn't wasting any time as he has aquired Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett and a 7th round pick for a 5th round pick and wide receiver Marcus Johnson.
Michael Bennett has made the Pro Bowl each of the last 3 seasons, posting 10 sacks in 2015, 5 in 2016, and 8.5 in 2017.
Jim Schwartz loves versatility across the defensive line. Bennett will bring just that with his ability to not only be a force on the outside, but on the inside as well.
The Eagles should also save some money with adding Bennett and releasing or trading Vinny Curry.
The key here is that the Eagles will save money and be actually upgrading in production.
Even with the potential trade or release of Curry, you can cross defensive end off of the list.
All in all, I like this move.
Howie Roseman is coming out firing, and we would expect some more fireworks over the next week or so.
The legal tampering period will start on March 12th, and then player signings and trades become official on March 14th.
A defensive back getting traded?
Reports from last week indicated that the Eagles would like to bring back free agent Patrick Robinson, but that would leave them with 5 corners and little money.
So, if they were to bring back Robinson, a trade of a corner makes a lot of sense. Ronald Darby's name has been the one that many people believe could be dealt.
Despite trading for Darby less than a year ago, he could very well be the d back that Mort was referring to. Darby will be a free agent next off-season, and the Eagles will not be able to pay him top dollar. Darby also has the most value of any corner.
If not Darby, Rodney McLeod could be a possible candidate.
Remember, Mort said "d back."
McLeod has a $6 million base salary and a 8.4 cap hit. Moving McLeod could fix a lot of the Eagles cap issues.
The Eagles also need picks. With the Bennett trade, they only have 4 in the top 6 rounds. So trading Curry and a defensive back for picks makes sense.
At this point I wouldn't put anything past Howie Roseman. The next 10 days are going to be fun!
