Sunday will be the 4th time that the Eagles and Vikings have met in the postseason.
Saturday, January 3rd, 1981: Eagles 31 Vikings 16
The Eagles were actually down 14-0 to start this game, but outscored the Vikings 31-2 the rest of the way. Two Wilbert Montgomery rushing touchdowns helped punch the Eagles ticket to the NFC championship game, where of course they would go on to beat Dallas and go onto the Super Bowl.
Sunday, January 16th, 2005: Eagles 27 Vikings 14
Sunday, January 4th, 2009: Eagles 26 Vikings 14
Donovan McNabb would out-duel Tarvaris Jackson, throwing for 300 yards. B-West had 83 yards receiving, including a 71 yard touchdown. Asante Samuel also had a pick-six in this game.
Doug Pederson has met Mike Zimmer before.
Last season the Eagles beat the then undefeated Vikings, 21-10.
This was an ugly win for the Birds. Wentz was 16/28, for only 138 yards and a touchdown.
Former Eagles did the damage, as Josh Huff returned a kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown, and Dorial Green-Beckham caught a 5 yard TD pass.
This was one of the best performances of the season for the Eagles defense, as they were able to sack Sam Bradford 6 times.
These teams are obviously very different.
The Vikings offensive line is much improved, Sam Bradford was their QB, and Norv Turner was their offensive coordinator.
However, their defensive scheme and personnel remain the same. If nothing else last year's game gives the team a frame of reference, and confidence that they can go toe-to-toe with the the Vikings.
Tale of the tape
The Vikings defense ranks first, or second in every major statistical category.
The Eagles defense ranks in the top 5 in every statistical category besides passing yards (17th/ 227.3 YPG).
These teams are almost mirror images, so what could be the tie breaker?
Lincoln Financial Field!
The Vikings defense is not the same away from home.
Two games stand out..
Week 10: @ Washington- Vikings 38-30
Cousins was on fire in this game. On the first drive Washington moved the ball right down the field, ending in a 36 yard touchdown pass from Cousin to Maurice Harris (who?).
Cousins ended the game 26/45 for 327 yards 1 touchdown, and 2 rushing touchdowns.
Foles isn't Cousins, but the Eagles have much more talent on offense than Washington.
Stat I love: Vernon Davis— 7 catches for 76 yards...
Big day for Zach Ertz?
Week 14: @ Carolina- Panthers 31-24
Every team is going to lose on the road at some point, but it's how the Vikings lost that has me hopeful for the Eagles.
Cam Newton only threw for 137 yards in this game, but the Panthers were able to run for 216 yards as a team.
I understand Cam has 70 of those yards, and again, Foles isn't Cam, but the Eagles have more talent on offense than the Panthers!
Stat I love: Jonathon Stewart (who STINKS!!!!) — ran for 103 yards on just 16 carries (6.4 YPC) and 3 touchdowns...
