Obviously we know that the most important playoff scenario is if the Eagles win tomorrow night, then they have home field advantage throughout the playoffs.
However there are plenty of whacky scenarios today.
Falcons @ Saints1:00
Saints win- they clinch the NFC south.
Falcons win- they are in and with a win next week win the NFC south.
Best outcome for the Eagles: A Falcons win
A Falcons win would turn this division upside down. These teams would have to fight to the finish while the Eagles are sitting back and relaxing.
If the Falcons do win, their home game next week vs Carolina will be for the division title.
Tampa Bay @ Carolina1:00
Panthers win- they are in.
Best outcome for the Eagels: A Panthers loss?
This outcome won’t effect the Eagles too much, although a Carolina win and Saints loss would make next week very interesting.
A Carolina loss would open the door for Detroit and the winner of the Dallas/Seattle game to get into the playoffs. I would rather play Detroit than Carolina, but I think the Eagles would be just fine playing the Panthers in the divisional round.
Detroit @ Cincinnati1:00
If the Lions lose they are eliminated.
Detroit needs to win their remaining two game and have the Falcons, Saints, or Panthers loss out to get into the playoffs.
The Lions hold the tiebreaker over the Cowboys and Seahawks.
Best outcome for the Eagels:A Lions win
It’s unlikely that Detroit will actually get in the playoffs and more even more unlikely that they will win a playoff game, but I would have no problem playing Detroit come the second weekend of January.
Rams @ Titans1:00
A Rams win or Seahawks loss- Rams clinch the NFC West.
Best outcome for the Eagels:It depends
The best outcome depends on if you would rather see the Saints or Rams in the divisional round.
If you want to play the Rams, then you are rooting for the Titans.
If you want to play the Saints, then you are rooting for the Rams.
If the Saints lose (and the panthers win) the 3 seed would come down to Carolina and LA next week.
Seattle @ Dallas 4:25
This is an elimination game.
The loser will be out, while the winner will still need a lot to go their way.
Both Dallas and Seattle would still need the Saints, Falcons, or Panthers to lose out, and Detroit to lose one of their next two games.
Best outcome for the Eagels: A Seahawks win
I wouldn’t want to see either of these teams in the playoffs, but if I had to pick, I would say finish off the Cowboys while you have the chance.
When will the Eagles play their first payoff game?
It will obviously be either Saturday, January 13th at 4 pm or 8 pm...
Sunday, January 14th at 1 pm or 4 pm.
I did some digging here...
The Killers have a sold out show at the Wells Fargo Center Saturday, January 13th.
While that won’t have any impact on the NFL’s decision, I would imagine if the City had it their way, the game would be on Sunday.
While nothing is official and this is purely speculation, it makes sense for the NFL to have the Eagles on Sunday.
The league would love to have Brady in primetime on Saturday night.
It makes sense to have the Steelers and either Jauguars or Ravens at 1 pm on Sunday and then the Eagles in the 4 pm prime time slot.
If I had to put money on it, I would put a small wager on Sunday at 4 pm. But that is obviously just an educated guess at this point.
