An absolute devastating turn of events for Carson Wentz, the Eagles, and fans.
Let's first take a look back at Sunday-
Stats: 23/41, 291 yards, 4 touchdowns 1 interception, 100.8 rating.
Fighting through adversity
This entire game was a fight through adversity.
Wentz rose to the occasion and showed why he is the future of the NFL.
After a fluky interception and the Rams took a 7-0 lead, Wentz led the Eagles right back down the field to tie the game.
He makes every player around him better
No Zach Ertz- no problem.
Brent Celek, Torrey Smith, Trey Burton; It doesn’t matter who you are- Wentz will make you relevant.
3rd/4th down efficiency
He has been the best 3rd/4th down quarterback all season long and that was on full display again Sunday.
Wentz was 11/16, 155 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 1 interception on 3rd and 4th down.
His final touchdown.
He threw this touchdown pass with a TORN ACL.
Wentz is an absolute legend who left EVERYTHING he had on the field.
Putting his body on the line
One of his biggest attributes is also one of his biggest flaws.
It's crazy to say, but he does too much.
We admire the fact that he leaves it all on the line, but health is more important.
He will learn from this!
This was one of the best games of Carson Wentz’s young career.
Even only having played 13 games, Wentz had the best single season in franchise history.
He will come back from this, and hopefully continue where he left off.
It's a true shame that he will not be able to finish what he has started and get that playoff experience.
Carson Wentz deserved much better than this.
265/440, 3,296 yards, 33 touchdowns, 7 interceptions, 101.9 rating.
1999 Peyton Manning (13 games)
263/424, 3,398 yards, 24 touchdowns, 14 interceptions, 90.7 final rating.
When I started this comparison back on September 11th, I wasn’t sure how it would play out. I thought comparing Wentz to Peyton Manning was a huge gamble.
But here we are 3 months to the day and it is safe to say the gamble paid off.
Carson Wentz completely exceeded even my wildest expectations. He surpassed 1999 Peyton Manning and then some.
The records through 13 games are identical.
He threw 9 more touchdowns and 7 less interceptions!
Carson Wentz has proven this season that he is among the games elite.
This absolutely SUCKS, there is no way around it.
But remember- this is only year two! The journey has just begun.
Yards-per-game: 11th (254)
We will have a final Wentz Report after the season.
