Today we will find out everything that we need to know about the Philadelphia Eagles.
3 things we’re watching
The best thing that the Rams do on defense is rush the passer. As a team they are 3rd in the league with 38 total sacks.
Aaron Donald is a problem. He leads the team with 8 sacks and will be a handful today.
If the Eagles are going to win this game they have to protect Carson Wentz.
The Eagles have gotten to the quarterback 33 times this season, a total that they will hopefully add to today, but it will be no easy task.
The Rams have protected Goff, allowing only 20 sacks this season. Even in their three losses Goff was only sacked twice in each game.
However, in those three losses Goff only threw 1 touchdown pass total.
At the very least the Eagles will need to be in his face and rattle the second year quarterback.
I mentioned Gurley’s name in the tale of the tape article, on the podcast, and now I am mentioning him again today- he’s that good.
He is second in the league in rushing with 939 yards, and has 8 touchdowns.
However, it is Todd Gurley the receiver that I am concerned with. He has 48 receptions for 563 yards and 3 touchdowns
The Eagles linebackers were brutal in coverage last Sunday and should be a target again today.
This is going to be one hell of a football game.
These two teams are similar in so many ways that this game may come down to coaching.
Sean McVay vs Jim Schwartz is the matchup I will have my eye on.
Defensively- the Eagles have to make Jared Goff uncomfortable and force a few bad throws.
Todd Gurley will be the X factor for McVay and the Rams. In a perfect world the Eagles will be able to contain Gurley and make Goff beat them.
Offensively- I’ll put my money on the Eagles bouncing back, although no Zach Ertz has me a bit concerned.
They will put their 2nd ranked rushing attack up against the Rams 27th ranked rush defense.
Maybe with Ertz out it will force the Eagles to run the ball more.
This could finally be the day that Jay Ajayi gets going.
Carson Wentz threw for 348 yards last week and people said he had a bad game. While I don’t see him passing for quite that many yards this week, I do believe that people will say he had a “good game” after today.
The Rams are a really good football team- there is no question about it.
This will be a tough game but at the end of the day I see the Eagles bouncing back.
They are the better team with the better quarterback. If they are for real they will walk out of the Coliseum a winner.
