3 things we’re watching (other than the QB matchup)
If the Cowboys do one thing really well on defense, its rush the passer.
Demarcus Lawrence, who has 11.5 sacks, vs Lane Johnson will be a matchup to watch. Additionally, David Irving, who has 6 sacks, is a jack of all trades for a Cowboys team that loves to run complex stunts.
The line was great against Denver but suspect against San Francisco.
This is another tough test.
Get off to a fast start.
After a long layoff following their win at Carolina, the Eagles started out very slow that next Monday night.
That cannot be the case tonight.
If the Eagles can get an early lead, it may be an easy night. If they come out sluggish and allow the Cowboys to gain confidence, it will be a dog fight.
Get to Dak Prescott
This is a no-brainer but the Eagles need to generate a pass rush.
We saw what Atlanta did last week, and while I would expect the Dallas coaching staff to come out with a different game plan, the Eagles d line should still be able to get to the quarterback.
They cannot allow Dak Prescott to get comfortable.
The Dallas Cowboys are a desperate team, and should throw everything that they have at the Eagles tonight.
But will desperation be enough?
The loss of Sean Lee cannot be understated.
The Cowboys are allowing opposing offenses to score an average of 32.3 points, and 363.3 yards without Lee this season.
153.4 of those yards are rushing yards.
The Eagles happen to be 4th in the NFL in rushing yards-per-game, averaging 136.8 yards on the ground.
Not a good mix.
While the Eagles should be able to run, the Cowboys will not.
The Birds top ranked run defense should make this Cowboys offense one dimensional, leaving it up to Dak Prescott to get it done.
I just can’t see it happening.
Defensively, I see the Eagles getting to Prescott multiple times and forcing a few bad decisions.
Offensively, the Eagles are a true mismatch for the Cowboys defense.
If Carson Wentz has time to throw, he will be able to pick this defense apart. I see Wentz going for 250 + and at least two touchdowns. This should be yet another performance that shows the entire world who the leader in the MVP race truly is.
The Cowboys could only manage 1 sack last week, if the Eagles o line can duplicate Atlanta’s succcess, it could be another long night for Dallas.
I would also expect the Birds to get the run game going. Could this be a break out game for Jay Ajayi?
I could see this being close early, but in the end, desperation will not be enough for Dallas.
The Eagles are a better team across the board and should get the job done tonight.
