The Philadelphia Eagles are currently 3 games up on the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC east with only 7 games left to play.
They are a virtual lock to make it back to the postseason for the first time since 2014.
No matter what happens Sunday night, come Monday they will still be in first place in the division, and will still own the best record in the NFC.
So why is this week, #DallasWeek, so important?
Why is this a “must win” game?
Let me tell you 5 reasons why.
1. HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE STARTS NOW
The Saints, Rams, Seahawks and Vikings are right behind the Eagles and slowly creeping. I would say they are silently creeping but that would be inaccurate, as all four of these teams are making some serious noise. Although I am not afraid of these teams, I can't deny that they are talented and well coached. So when you have talented teams with good coaching in place, it would be a whole lot easier to play them in Lincoln Financial Field in the cold weather come playoff time rather than playing in domes (New Orleans or Minnesota) or sunny LA. We do not want to forfeit home field advantage. Home field advantage race starts now!
2. DO WE REALLY WANT TO HAVE TO BEAT DALLAS 3 TIMES?
The Cowboys are not a team we want to see in the playoffs. Dak is really good. Dez is hard to cover. Zeke will be back from his suspension, and if they do sneak their way into a wildcard position they certainly have the firepower to go all the way. The only thing worse than an Eagles loss in the playoffs would be an Eagles loss combined with Cowboys victories. This Dallas team is good and with Zeke they are really good, which is why we need to put them away and end their season now!
3. NFC EAST IMPLICATIONS
Barring a complete disaster, a win Sunday will completely lock up the NFC East.
However, a loss in Dallas puts the Cowboys right back into contention. They will be only 2 games back and have another shot at the Eagles on New Years Eve. If the Eagles are 8-2 and Dallas is 6-4, the division is very much still up for grabs.
One of the problem associated with potentially losing the division, the wildcard race is scary good. There are only two spots and about six good teams. The Eagles have to go to Seattle and Los Angeles and play Dallas again. I hate to be negative, but a loss this week could be a long stressful ride the rest of the season.
Disclaimer: I still think Eagles will make playoffs, but let’s make it a fun ride, not a stressful one.
4. CONFIDENCE IS A STAIN THEY CANT WIPE OFF(or can they?)
This team is 8-1. They are clicking on all cylinders. To go into Dallas and beat up the Cowboys should boost confidence for not only the team but the fans as well. Beating Dallas has a major reflection on how the rest of this season goes. Riding into the end of the season with confidence at an all-time high will have everyone talking AND BELIEVING that the Eagles can hoist the Lombardi trophy. On the flip side, a loss to the Cowboys without their star running back and Sean Lee, their captain of the defense, might have the cowboys rubbing massive amounts of tide all over those confidence stains.
5. SHUT UP THE HATERS!
Shut up the Wentz haters. Is this really important? No, but all of these sportswriters and fair-weather cowboys fans who say Dak > Wentz are 100% wrong. I can admit this, Dak Prescott is really, really good, but Wentz is great. I will take great over really, really good any day of the week. So, football gods, please let the more talented team (Eagles) and the more talented QB (wentz) win this game like they should so we don’t have to listen to these people.
Will this game make or break the eagles season? No, but I believe this week could be the difference in hoisting that Lombardi Trophy at the end of the season, or fighting tooth and nail for a wild card spot. Put them away now, beat Dallas, and Fly Eagles Fly.
