Obviously after the first three games it was not the start Sixer fans were looking for.
People seemed shocked, disappointed and even worrisome.
Listen, this was a tough start to the season.
A 5 point road loss @ Washington, a home loss vs. a very talented Celtics team, and a spanking out in Toronto on a the second night of a back to back, without Embiid.
I’ve always been one to take positives from negative outcomes/results.
First off the Wizards, Celtics, and Raptors are three teams that will finish ahead of the 76ers this year in the East. Not one of these losses surprise or worry me.
Then came last night in Detroit.
Finally playing a team that is on their level, we saw a much different result.
Behind a Ben Simmons triple double (21 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists) the Sixers got their first win defeating the Pistons 97-86
Ben Joined the "Big O" Oscar Robertson as the only players in NBA history with 4 straight double doubles in first 4 games to start a career.
Simmons was flat out fantastic on Monday night. The kid was getting anywhere he wanted. The rebounds are going to continue to come as he clearly has the height to along with his impressive instincts. His vision was on full display as he dropped 10 dimes. I expect close to multi digit assists every night he steps on the hardwood.
Ben didn’t shine alone, Joel Embeast went 11/15 from the field netting 30 points while being guarded by Andre Drummond for the majority of the night (not an easy feat) and grabbed 9 boards. His 7 turnovers were concerning, but when you make up for it in other categories I could care less as long as the team gets the win.
RoCo added 13 while going 3/5 from deep continuing a solid start to the season.
Veterans J.J. Redick and Jerryd Bayless were colder than Leo in Titanic (5/16) but behind the young core the Sixers still found a way to come out victorious.
The Markelle Fultz saga continues. Now it is becoming a game of "who said what" with his agent.
I think they should just shut Fultz down for a few weeks, get him right and then start over. He flashes the talent he just looks injured.
The Sixers have another tough test on Wednesday when to James Harden & the Rockets come to town.
The Sixers are a 3 point underdog for tomorrow night.
