The quick pass completely negated any pass rush that the Eagles could get.
The Giants took a play out of the Packers playbook from last season. Get the ball out quick and let your receivers make plays.
Jalen Mills leading the team with 9 tackles tells the story.
The quick pass is becoming the blue print for how to beat the Eagles pass rush. Thankfully the defense kept everything in front of them for 3 quarters. A thin secondary (and not a great secondary to start) clearly limits Schwartz’s ability to dial up a blitz.
The Eagles had a mismatch but did not take advantage. Janoris Jenkins, who was listed as doubtful, suited up and played really well.
Ertz had 8 catches and a touchdown but also had a costly 4th quarter fumble leading to a Giants touchdown.
Alshon Jeffery has seen 3 of the best corners in the league to start the season, but I would like to see a little more from him in these big match-ups.
I was a little perplexed by this game plan in general. I thought the Eagles had major mismatch vs Eli Apple and DRC.
Mack Hollins who looked good last week, wasn’t targeted at all this week, and was only on the field for 8 snaps while Marcus Johnson was on the field for 7 snaps. I just don't understand that at all.
It would be nice for some consistency at the WR position.
Eagles O line vs Giants D line.
The line got off to a rough start allowing a sack on the very first play. However they only allowed 2 more sacks the rest of the way. Chance Warmack was on a quick leash, he only played 42% of the snaps while Stefen Wisniewski played 58%. Wiz really sured up the left side of the line and hopefully he can solidify himself as a starter going forward. The line clearly showed that they can open up holes for the run game. 193 yards on the ground and two touchdowns is a pretty damn good day for the line.
Qb: Full report tomorrow 9 am due to Dak playing tonight.
D line: C+
Secondary: B +
This wasn’t exactly how I saw this one going.
Get ready for a long week of bashing the coach.
Let’s start with the bad:
4th and 8 from the Giants 43 with 2:36 left in the half!!! Come on Doug, you’re not helping yourself.
The misuse of the running backs is mind-boggling. Yes Corey Clement scored a touchdown, but why is an undrafted free agent getting meaningful carries in the 4th quarter? LeGarette Blount looked great, he has to be used in that situation- no excuse.
There is a time to be negative- 2-1 isn’t exactly that time, but Pederson isn’t doing himself any favors.
It was a hot day. So in all fairness, while I didn’t expect 39 runs and 31 passes, it was smart to wear the defense down and control the clock. But the run game almost felt forced a bit. It felt like Pederson was listening to WIP all week.
I would have thought they would have tested Eli Apple a bit. They won the Game so you can't fail a coach for a win, but he has to stop doing stupid shit.
Take away the 4th and 8, add a few more carries for Blount, and a few shots down the field, Pederson wouldn't even be a topic of conversation today. STOP DOING DUMB SHIT!!!!
Thankfully Pederson wasn't the worst coach on the field yesterday.
For the good:
Hey a win is a win. I never in a million years would have thought Jake Elliot could have made a 61 yard field goal to win the game, but it happened and it was awesome.
Hopefully he can build off of that confidence and become the Eagles kicker for years to come. I can tell you he wont have to buy a beer in Philly for the foreseeable future.
The Eagles had a banged up secondary, but these guys came to play. They weren’t going to be perfect, but in a match-up that clearly favored the Giants, they did their job and performed better than anyone could have expected.
Overall, this was a much needed W. If you look around the league yesterday- no team is perfect, and everyone has flaws. Miami lost to the Jets, Green Bay struggled at home vs the Bengals, the Patriots struggled, Seattle's is 1-2, the Ravens were buried 44-7 by the Jaguars.
The Redskins beat up Oakland, making that win @ Washington week 1 look a lot better.
Things could be worse, for now rejoice in being in first place at 2-1.
