While the redskins did put some pressure on Wentz, It was the Eagles offensive line that won this matchup. Even with Jason Peters going out (he plans to play next week) they gave Wentz enough time to make some plays. They didn’t win the matchup by much, but did what they needed to do for this week.
A lot of turnover this offseason for both rosters and as expected this game was sloppy. I wouldn’t say this came into play as far as the result, but the Eagles new cornerbacks did play well even with Ronald Darby going out. It helps that the D line was able to create as much pressure as they did.
LeGarrette Blount was clearly the best running back on the field Sunday. Neither running game was good, but I would give the edge to the Birds. I don't know what some people that cover this team don’t understand; Blount isn’t a feature back and wasn’t brought in to be one. This is a pure committee plain and simple. Blount did his job Sunday.
QB: B +
O line: C+
D Line: A (could have been A + had they finished off a few more sacks)
DBs: B (Corners did their job)
The Coach: C+
This was far from a perfect game but the Eagles did what they needed to do.
The Coach was good not great. He still does some whacky things but all in all he was good on Sunday.
I agreed with the field goal to make it 22-17.
For the people who complained about it- If they don’t get that first down and Washington wins the game with a field goal as time expires, then what? Pederson would have been ran out of the city by 5pm. Imagine getting out of bed today after losing that game 20-19???
Yes, I get it; if they get the first down the game is over, but in that situation you needed to make it a 5 point game- we saw the result. Pederson is damned if he does, damned if he doesn’t.
I’ll have a full report on Wentz later, but he was solid.
Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith will only get better and more involved as the year goes on but yesterday it was Nelson Agholor who shined. Snagholor (his new nickname get used to it) hauled in 6 catches for 86 yards and a TD (who had him on their draft kings team??).
Zach Ertz also had a big game catching 8 balls for 93 yards. Hopefully yesterday was a sign of things to come.
The D line was the big story for me. They combined for 4 sacks, but it felt like they were in the backfield every time Kirk Cousins dropped back. Brandon Graham led the team with 2 sacks. This unit has a chance to be considered the league’s best by seasons end.
Overall, this was a great team win. Winning on the road vs a division rival is tough. The Eagles did what they needed to do and walked out of D.C 1-0.
